Productivity and Nutritional Quality of Nitrogen-Fixing and Non-Fixing Shrub Species for Ruminant Production

چکیده

Fodder shrubs are important dry season feed sources for livestock in semi-arid environments. It has been proposed that a mixture of leguminous with non-leguminous may increase rates N cycling and improve biomass fodder quality. The objective the present study was to assess productivity quality growing shrubs. Three shrub species—the legume Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) non-legumes Guazuma ulmifolia Moringa oleifera (Lam.)—were grown as legume/non-legume mixtures monocultures. Total production were estimated over five harvests at three-month intervals. Leucaena–Guazuma had largest (9045 kg ha−1 year−1), followed by monocrop (7750 year−1). nitrogen accumulation foliage also high mixture, reaching 282 year−1; accumulated 244 N, while took up only 46 ha−1. concentration polyphenols Guazuma, lowest value. survival excellent growth rates, well observed suggest they have potential provide high-quality livestock.

Nitrogen Fixing

Blue Green Algae (BGA) have the capacity to self generate photosynthates from CO and 2 water. It is gratifying to note that Aulosira is the most important alga of the rice fields of India. Algalization has been found to benefit all the growth parameters. The propagation of BGA enriches the N status of soil and also provides organic matter and biological quotient 2 substances for plant growth. T...

Use of nitrogen-fixing bacteria to improve agricultural productivity

Nitrogen-fixing, plant-growth promoting bacteria are arguably the biotechnological tool of highest potential to improve agricultural productivity in short term. Nitrogen fixation and phytohormone production by these bacteria have been considered the most important factors for plant growth promotion. However, the underlying mechanisms responsible for productivity increases by associative bacteri...

Nitrogen-fixing aerobic bacteria have higher genomic GC content than non-fixing species within the same genus.

The genomic GC contents of both nitrogen-fixing and non-fixing members of eight genera of bacteria are investigated. Analysis by t-tests showed that in the two aerobic general investigated (Aquaspirillum and Vibrio) there is a significantly higher GC content in the nitrogen-fixing members of the genus than in those unable to fix nitrogen, whilst in aerobic genera there is either no GC bias, or ...

Ureide Production by N2-fixing and Non-n2-fixing Leguminous Trees

Xylem-sap and stem and leaf extracts from 35 species, comprising 14 genera, of leguminous trees were analyzed for ureides, nitrate and a-amino acids. Trees were either inoculated with Rhizobium or fertilized with NH4NO3. The dominant form of soluble N in stem and leaf extracts and xylem sap was a -amino acids. Certain non-N2-fixing species, i.e. Tamarindus indica and Adenanthera pavonina, produ...

Ferredoxins from Nitrogen-Fixing Bacteria

Two ferredoxins have been purified from N2-fixing Mycobacterium flavum. Ferredoxin I had a minimum molecular weight (by amino acid analysis) of 11 230 and contained 7.4 mol Fe and 7.0 mol S2per mol. The ratio of the absorbance at 400 nm to that at 275 nm was 0.7. Ferredoxin I1 had a minimum molecular weight of 13478 and contained 3.4 mol Fe and 3.2 mol S2per mol. The ratio of the absorbance at ...
